The animal husbandry department has started issuing Aadhar Card - “Animal Health Cards” to over one lakh cattle in the district of Coimbatore.
The government has planned to issue bio-metric-based unique identification number to each Cow across India to enable easy tracking of them and their progeny. Cattle including native breeds, hybrids and buffaloes would soon be provided this card and the work is in progress in 105 centers including veterinary hospitals and clinics in the district of Coimbatore.
"A 12- digit number would be assigned to each cattle and in three different colors to separate the breeds and it would be tagged to the bovines ears" said Ramachandran, Joint Director of Animal husbandry who also added that the cards will help the bovine community avail medical facilities and medical insurance in Government veterinary centers.
"The preliminary work for issuance of one lakh Animal health cards would completed within a year", he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the scheme to boost the income of dairy sector by 2022 and about 88 million cattle in India would be covered under this scheme.
